How to edit your Travel Photos

On my last trip to Scotland a few weeks ago I took over 500 pictures. To edit every single one is quite time comsuming and very exhausting. I´ve made a lot of presets in Lightroom to edit them much more faster.

If you try to create your own preset it is very important to remember all the colors and feelings that you`ve soaked up during the whole journey. For me the best way to do this was to sit on my computer with a glass peaty and smokey Single Malt from my favortite destillery “Talisker”. By smelling and drinking it came all the impressions once again over me.

Of course you can´t edit every picture with the same preset especially when it comes to the sea is that a pretty difficult thing. I will introduce you here some ways of editing.

In the Highlands that autumnal landscape is a bit barren and pervaded by unobtrusive warm tones. So I´ve created a very earthy and a bit unsatured preset.

When I arrived the Isle of Skye everything was much more intensive and dramatically. Also the light was not as strong as for example in the Highlands. That pictures need a dark and moody editing. You can reach that effect by adding a strong vignette.

On the Isle of Skye is a very famous beach located. It´s named “Coral Sands Beach” and that´s where a lot of turquoise come into the play. A quite a challenge for me, because colors like turquoise I usually never use in my photos. At first I gave the picture more structure and the second step was to work out the turcquoise seperatley with the color palette. By the way the following pictures are all drone shots.

When it comes to medieval castles I definitly prefer Black´n White photography. In the special case of Eileann Donan Castle I´ve developed a warm B`n W preset, not Sepia but something of that kind.
